Hello artists, and welcome back to another artist feature. This week, we are featuring Nishi Goyal! Nishi is a 15-year old artist based in California. She uses a variety of mediums and techniques to depict messages about social issues, from racism to the stigma around mental illness. Let us get to know more about her in the following interview!
1. How did you first get into art?
I've been making art since I could write. Art has always been in my life and has acted as a tool for me to relieve stress and physicalize my feelings. It's slowly transformed from a hobby to a passion. I started creating for an audience in 6th grade, where I created an Instagram (@nishi.art), and I've been posting on there ever since.
2. Who or what are your biggest inspirations that motivate you to create art?
My biggest inspiration is simply my life, and all the experiences I've been through. My pieces are a reflection of significant moments during my life and my emotions throughout them. I've also recently become interested in depicting themes of social justice through my art, which was always an effective way for me to grasp pressing issues.
3. What is your favorite piece of art that you have created so far?
My favorite piece of art that I've created so far is an acrylic painting of my sister and I when we were younger, mainly because it brings back lots of good memories.
4. If you had the opportunity to spend a day with your favorite musician, who would it be and why?
This is a difficult question because I admire so many artists. I mainly interact with small artists on Instagram that are my age. They all have extraordinary talent, so seeing their pieces really inspire me.
5. Do you have any advice or tips for people that are interested in music and art?
Creating art can often be scary because you are scared of "messing up" and the piece not turning out how you expected. I think that if you are interested in art, then simply start drawing whenever you can-- even if it's just doodling in your notebooks. Don't pressure yourself into immediately creating a masterpiece, and instead, just enjoy the process!
