Featured Artist- Seth Jakob

Hello fellow readers! For this week's artist feature, we have Seth Jakob Jochum-Fuchs! They are an amazing and inspirational artist, expressionist, musician, and orator! Seth Jakob who loves to spread the message of self-love and creativity will be interviewed in the following blog. Let us get to know more about them!

1. What is your name, age, and location? Any fun facts about yourself and your hobbies?

Hello! My name is Seth Jakob Jochum-Fuchs, they/them, 19, from New York City. I am a psychology and studio art double major at Stonybrook University, and I make digital art on commission! If you're interested in my work or would like to purchase art, please check out my website on Instagram at @sj.jochumfuchs.art.

2. How did you first get into art?

I first got into art as a very young person. I have always loved creative expression, and I first started embracing art as a core part of that in sixth grade, when I joined an arts based middle school. I found my passion for spoken word when I came out as trans at fourteen and joined Youth Pride Chorus, a chorus centering and galvanizing queer youth. YPC furthered my love of music, and I am now learning how to produce music digitally.

3. Who or what are your biggest inspirations that motivate you?

My biggest inspiration is those who came before me. I am not the first or last trans person, and what I do, I do for queer people past, present, and future.

4. How do you plan on using your art to spread awareness or make a difference in the world?

I plan on using my art as incentive to donate money to causes that matter for the survival of marginalized groups, give strength to those who need it, and shed light on issues that need to be given attention.

5. What is your favorite piece of art that you have created so far?

In terms of my art, I don't play favorites. If I had a favorite, that would devalue every other work that I make, and I am not about that. I love my art because it is a documentation of my growth, and I love watching my growth flourish, in whatever nonlinear way it needs to.

6. What are your current or future goals with your art?

I hope to inspire others as much as I can, be it inspiring them to make art, or inspiring them to take action. In either case, I am excited to be productive and make something better.

7. If you had the opportunity to spend a day with your favorite artist, who would it be and why?

I would spend the day with Willow Smith. I love her art and I love her message, I am inspired by the fact that her music evokes calm and also sounds like a mix of melody and poetry.

8. Do you have any advice or tips for people that are interested in art?

My best advice for those starting out in their artistic expression: Shut up and make it. No matter what it is. If you make it and you don't like it, perfect. If you make it and it's the best work you ever made, perfect. Make another one. See what happens. Those who do not do because they are afraid of failing never succeed.

Here are a few examples of Seth Jakob's brilliant work as well as commission pricing guide, for anyone interested!:
