Hello fellow artists and art lovers. Hope you all are doing well and are continuing to create art. This week's ASF artist feature is poet Suhani Sethi. Poetry is an incredible form of art, and Suhani is such an incredible writer. Here's our interview with her.
1. What is your name, age, and location (city, state, country)? How about your interests? Tell us more about yourself.
My name is Suhani Sethi. I'm a fifteen-year-old sophomore at KC High School in Chennai, India. I have lived and traveled to numerous places globally and nationally. I love to travel, write poetry, sing, bake, play sports, and I am considering social work as a strong contender for my career.
2. How did you first get into poetry?
When I learned about poetry as a topic in elementary school and absolutely fell in love with it.
3. Who or what are your biggest inspirations that motivate you to create poetry?
My friends, family, and the experiences I have had inspired me to write my poems.
4. How do you plan on using your poems to spread awareness or make a difference in the world?
I plan to be the voice for people suppressed in society and make my voice heard and put forth my perspective on current affairs or an issue I feel strongly about by formulating them into poems. That way people can perceive my writing in their own way and understand the situation from different perspectives.
5. What is your favorite poem that you have written so far?
My favorite poem that I have ever written is probably "Will I Ever Be Enough."
6. What are your current or future goals with your writing?
My goal is to use poetry as a platform to raise awareness of the social well-being on-goings in different societies that I am passionate about.
7. If you had the opportunity to spend a day with your favorite writer, who would it be and why?
Khalid Hussaini, because his books and outstanding method of descriptive writing is partly what where I get inspiration for my poems. I am in awe of his work and have re-read his books countless times.
8. Do you have any advice or tips for people that are interested in writing?
I would say don't go online or somewhere else looking for ways to make your poem appealing or "interesting" instead, sit calmly and think about experiences you have had or situations you have overcome and your feelings during those times and you'll see that your thoughts will flow and so will your writing.
