"They can clean us out of house and home, but they cannot empty us of ourselves. I created this piece to amplify the taboo subject of ethnic cleansing, especially given our current climate. This is written from my perspective as a young mixed-race Black woman, however, I feel that it is transcendent enough to allow for other visible minorities to empathize with and enough to spark necessary conversations that anyone is able to participate in. In light of this statement for my poem, I hope that Spring Cleaning will speak for itself and invite the issue at hand to not be a seasonal topic."
